Default Already running,yea right.

Already Running
Guild Wars is unable to start because another copy is already running on this computer or because the application has insufficient rights to successfully detect whether another copy is already running on this computer.

Do I have to stress out that I don't have another GW running and that restarting doesn't work.
Oh please,don't suggest reinstalling.

Try to look into processes and see if theres another instance of gw.exe.
I have no less stupid idea than that.

We'll need more than that to help you

What OS are you running?
Have you ran GW successfully on your computer before?
Did you change something software of hardware on your computer recently?

If you are using windows vista or 7 have you tried running the program as an administrator. Have you checked if Gw.exe was in the list of processes (yep processes, not applications) running in your task manager before you tried to launch it.

And why not suggest reinstalling, you might not need to reinstall, however at some point, resintalling might be necessary as the causes of your problem are narrowed down.

Yep, Ctrl Alt Del -> Processes tab and look for GW.exe. 'S about all you can do with such an error.

turn off the computer and unplug it.
and then....PLUG IT BACK IN!

Thats how I got it to work once. Just turning it off and leaving the cord plugged in sometimes still keeps processes running even though the system is off. Unplugging it will end those processes

Next time, right click on the shortcut and click "run as administrator" and/or make sure you have admin status.

also for w/e reason sometimes you'll tell it to end the Gw.exe task and it doesnt go away. in that case i would suggest logging off and logging back on.. it usually gets rid of the gw.exe(the one that you cant end and doesnt work) for me(im running vista so it could jsut bea vista thing). but yea id try that. its deffinatley the quickest thing to do. If it doesnt work I'd just reinstall.. it takes waht? maybe 1hr out of not being able to play gw. not that bad <3

Once in a blue moon i find with xp and knowing MS it exists in all windows - i do get a rare instance where for unknown reasons gw hasnt started nor has shown in processes but when i do attempt to run it i get that message.
To me its just a bug where the program itself isnt loaded and windows hasnt realised it - bit like a bad terminate and stay resident program (tsr) .
Only way i know to fix is to reboot pc which clears the memory totally.

If u do the re-install .. make a backup of gw.dat into a sep folder and when re-installed copy it over the new one - that way u have all updates rather than having to -image everything.
